The Lohian Khas police have booked nine persons on the charge of assaulting a villager.
Investigating officer Balwindar Singh said that the accused have been identified as Jogindar Singh, Gurpreeet Singh, Lovpreet Singh, Lakhvinder Singh, Karaj Singh, and Jianunna Singh, all residents of Mianni village, and their three accomplices.
Surindar Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that he was returning home after seeing the water level in the River Sutlej on August 21 when the accused waylaid and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and seriously injured him.IO said that a case under sections 115(2), 117(2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 191(3) (rioting) and 190(unlawful assembly) of the BNS has been registered against the accused.
