Police fail to nab murder-accused POs even after 23 years


 NAKODAR.
 The Nakodar city police have yet to arrest two murder-accused Proclaimed Offenders (PO) who have been on the run for 23 years. They had murdered a local jeweller, Mimik.Janak Raj, son of Manohar Lal, a resident of Suffi Mohalla, Railway Road, Nakodar, who was employed at the jewellery shop of the victim’s grandfather at Sarafan Bazar, along with his accomplice Sonu, son of Ved Parkash a resident of Feroze Pur district and then residing in Mohalla Saran, Nakodar, were declared proclaimed

offenders (POs).The trial court has, however, acquitted one of their accomplices. Janak had a scuffle with Mimik and his father in January 2002, after which Janak and his accomplices attacked them with knives.

Mimik was declared dead at a hospital.

Names of these POs are included in the list of POs posted on the Punjab police website.Nakodar police had registered a case under sections 302(murder), 307(attempt to murder), and 34(committing a crime with common intentions) of the IPC against the accused on January 12, 2002, who were declared PO on May 20, 2002

Nakodar residents have questioned police claims that the drive against POs will continue with full force, and

their teams are conducting raids at suspected hideouts across various states.
