JALANDHAR
Reaffirming the Jalandhar Administration’s resolve to wipe out the drug menace, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Monday directed officials to visit de-addiction and rehabilitation centres every Thursday to counsel and motivate patients undergoing treatment.

Chairing a meeting of the Narcos Coordination Centre (NCORD) at the District Administrative Complex,

Dr. Aggarwal instructed officials from the departments of agriculture, horticulture, skill development, dairy development, and employment generation to engage regularly with inmates and support their reintegration into society through meaningful interaction and awareness about livelihood opportunities.

In a major push to Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Deputy Commissioner also asked departments to prepare development schemes for identified drug hotspots. “These areas must be transformed into model localities with proper playgrounds, health centres, gyms, parks, employment programs, and fitness activities,” he said, adding that such infrastructure will bring lasting change. He appreciated the ongoing efforts of the Police Department in cutting drug supply chains in these vulnerable areas.

Dr. Aggarwal also directed the Health Department to take strict action against the misuse of medical drugs, treating their abuse on par with synthetic drugs. He asked the Police to intensify surveillance at inter-district checkpoints to curb the trafficking of synthetic and pharmaceutical drugs from other states.

Citizens have been encouraged to share any drug-related information anonymously via WhatsApp at 9779-100-200. Two de-addiction centres are functional at Civil Hospital Jalandhar and Nurmahal, along with a rehabilitation centre at Shekhe village and various outpatient clinics.

The DC also urged citizens about the dedicated District De-Addiction Helpline (0181-2911969) available for counselling and support, underscoring the administration’s commitment to a drug-free Jalandhar.
