The Mehat Pur police have arrested two villagers on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Investigating Officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said that the accused has been identified as Makhan Singh, son ofGurdass Singh, a resident of Dhamre Dian Chhana village, and Harpreet Singh, son of Takhat Singh, a resident of Aadramaan village.
Gurdev Kaur, wife of Amrik Singh, a resident of Mundi Cholian village under Lohian Khas police station, had complained to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Jalandhar (rural) said the accused agreed to marry Jasveer Kaur, to her son, Baldev Singh, living illegally in the USA, and the Chunni ceremony of Jasveer Kaur was held
The complainant had said it was mutually agreed that Jasveer would go to Canada, from where she would travel by car to the US to join Baldev Singh.
She had said that she spent Rs 12.5 lakhs for facilitating the migration of Jasveer to Canada, but after reaching Canada, Jasveer Kaur did not join her son as per a conspiracy by her family, and thus, she was cheated by her family.
IO said a case under sections 406(breach of trust), 420(cheating and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC
was registered against the accused and others, including two women.
