The Nakodar Sadar police have booked an NRI couple and a woman travel agent on charges of allegedly duping a Shahkot resident of Rs 15.65 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.
Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Sukhpal Singh, who is investigating the case, said that the accused has been identified as Mycal, a resident of Birmingham, England, and his wife Kiran Masih and Manjit Kaur, wife of Paramjit Singh, a resident of Sarihn village and presently residing in Guru Arjan Dev Colony, Malrri village.
Manreet Singh alias Mattu, a resident of Talwandi Madho village in Shahkot, had complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police that he had paid Rs 15.65 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his migration to England y. However, neither did the accused send him abroad, nor did they return the money.
DSP said a case under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act has been registered against the accused after an inquiry, and further investigation was in progress
