The Shahkot police have arrested a Shahkot woman on the charge of abetting suicide.
Investigating officer IO) Sukhwindar Pal Singh said that the accused has been identified as Harbant Kaur wife of Harjindar Singh a resident of Mohalla Simbal, ward no 112 Shahkot.
Sukhjit Kaur, wife of the deceased Sukhwindar Singh, a resident of Model Town, Shahkot, had complained
to the police that her husband was working as a clerk in Overseas Indian Bank, Nakodar, and the accused
Harbant Kaur’s sister Paramjit Kaur had taken loan of Rs 16.67 Lakhs from them but did not pay back.
She had said that whenever we demanded money back, we were insulted, and this became a headache for
her husband, who committed suicide by consuming sulphone tablets on July 3, and wrote a suicide note
blaming all the accused for his death.
IO said that a case under section 108(abetment of suicide) of the BNS was registered against the accused.
