Under the Punjab Government’s ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, the Jalandhar (rural) police, led by Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) Harwindar Singh Vrk, took yet another significant step against drug traffickers on Saturday. As part of a joint drive by the Block Development Officer, Nurmahal, and Naib Tehsildar Nurmahal, the Bilga Police demolished illegal encroachments of drug peddlers. The property was built on government land in Burj Hassan village under the Bilga police station.
Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwann Singh Ball said that after receiving information about illegal construction on government land, the structure was razed by the police in the presence of a duty magistrate.
He said that police investigations revealed that Surindar Singh alias Shinda, son of Harbans Singh, a resident of Burj Hassan village, had constructed a double-story house on 30 marls of panchayat land.
DSP said Bilga Station, house Officer (SHO) Palwinder Singh, and his team demolished illegal construction and handed over land to the village panchayat and block development office in the presence of Nurmahal naib tehsildar.
SHO Palwindar Singh said four cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act are pending against the accused, who is in jail serving a prison sentence.
