Two notorious gangsters were arrested early today after cross-firing with the Shahkot police.
Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of police Harwindar Singh Virk said the accused have been identified as Lakhwindar Singh alias Khanna, son of Rajindar Singh, a resident of Nawan Pind Done Wal village under Lohian Khas police station, and Ajay Kumar alias Ajay Baba, son of Kashmiiri Lal, a resident of Kandola Kalan village under Nurmahal police station.
SSP said the Shahkot police received information early today that two criminals on bails are roaming in the villages, supplying illicit weapons and drugs to their customers, and are looking for a safe place.
SSP said the Shahkot police informed all police stations and senior officers and sent police teams for patrol.
HS Virk said at 6.15 AM, the police intercepted a motorcycle coming from Bajwa Kalan village side at Kotli Gajran under bridge on the National Highway near Shahkot railway station, on which two youth with covered faces were traveling, and signaled them to stop, but they tried to flee backward.
SSP said the police chased them, but the accused opened fire, intending to kill. The police fired in self-defense, which pierced their legs, and they were arrested.
H.S. Virk said two country-made pistols, 32 bore with five live cartridges, and 110 intoxicant tablets wererecovered from their possession and admitted to Nakodar Civil Hospital for treatment, adding that both accused are wanted by Nakodar and Lohian Khas police in seven cases of extortion and murder bids.
