DC orders telecom companies/PSPCL to take immediate action to remove neglected wires in the City

JALANDHAR.

In a proactive move to enhance public safety and city aesthetics, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu

Aggarwal has directed telecom and internet providers, along with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited

(PSPCL), to remove redundant, unused, dangling, or damaged overhead wires across the city—beginning

with the vicinity of Chintapurani Mandir on Old Railway Road as a pilot project. Following the success of

the pilot project, this will be replicated across the city.

Acting on public concern and visual inspection, Dr. Aggarwal noted a dangerous accumulation of entangled

wires, particularly opposite the temple premises. He mentioned that these neglected cables, many of which

appear to be abandoned or non-functional, pose a significant threat, especially during rain or strong winds.

“Such overhead mess is not only an eyesore but a real hazard—particularly to children and the elderly,” the DC stated in a meeting with all stakeholders.

The Deputy Commissioner has called for a launching of pilot project jointly by PSPCL, BSNL, and all

concerned internet service providers to resolve this issue. The teams have been instructed to identify and

label active and non-functional lines and promptly remove or repair the damaged ones. He mentioned that after a pilot project in particular area, this should be extended to entire city.

This cleanup drive, Dr. Aggarwal emphasized, is aimed at both safeguarding the public and restoring the

visual integrity of the locality. The Jalandhar Administration has expressed its commitment to extend similar

inspections to other areas in the coming weeks, urging utility providers to prioritize maintenance and public

responsibility.
