NURMAHAL

The Nurmahal police have booked unidentified persons in connection with the death of an NRI under mysterious circumstances in his native village.

Investigating Officer (IO) Bodh Raj said he was on petrol and duty at Baina Pur village on May 21, where the complainant, Puja, wife of Gurmit Singh, a resident of Baina Pur village, recorded her statement.

Puja said in her statement that she has been working as a domestic servant in the house of Sewa Singh, son of Sohan Singh, for the last five years, saying that Sewa Singh is an England-based NRI living alone in his house in his native village.

She said in her statement that she came to Sewa Singh's house on May 21 late evening to prepare food but could not find him and went back and came after some time and opened the door of Sewa Singh's bedroom, where he was sitting on a chair in an awkward position, bleeding and his right hand was in between his thighs.

Puja said she informed the panchayat, and other residents who reached the spot saw a pistol lying near Sewa Singh, and it seemed that Sewa Singh ended his life by firing from the pistol, and legal action should be taken.

IO said the police recovered the body and sent it to Phillaur Civil Hospital for post-mortem, and a case under sections 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act (these sections deal with illegal possession, manufacture, and other contraventions related to arms and ammunition, respectively) has been registered against an unidentified accused.  The police recovered a pistol of 7.76 mm capacity and an empty cartridge from the spot.
