NAKODAR
The Nakodar city police have arrested a woman ex-sarpanch and her accomplice for embezzling government money while constructing a school after four years and released them on bail.
Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhpal Singh said that the accused have been identified as Pawandip Kuar, wife of Sukhraj Singh, ex-sarpanch of Aallowal village, and her colleague Jaspal, son of Sarbann, ex-member panchayat of Aallowal village.
The then District Education Officer (elementary) Jalandhar, Gurcharan Singh, had complained to the police that the accused embezzled Rs 56.23,157 during the village Aallowal elementary school construction.
DSP said that a case under sections 406 (breach of trust), 409(criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420(cheating), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused on February 25, 2021, against the accused who were released on bail and others.
