The wheat procurement season is progressing smoothly in the district. Due to the efficient leadership of
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the robust arrangements made by the Punjab Government, more
than 5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured in an organized manner so far.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, while sharing more details, stated that this year there has
been a bumper wheat yield and a total of 5,07,656 metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the district’s mandis
( grain markets), out of which 5,07,612 metric tonnes have already been procured.
Sharing information regarding procurement by various agencies, Dr. Aggarwal said that Pungrain has
procured 1,65,845 metric tonnes, Markfed 1,37,181 metric tonnes, Punsup 1,15,135 metric tonnes, Punjab
State Warehousing Corporation 56,941 metric tonnes, FCI 27,618 metric tonnes, and private traders have
procured 4,892 metric tonnes of wheat.
He said the Punjab Government has ensured a payment of Rs. 1,209 crore to the farmers of the district for
the procured crop, and the lifting of the crop has also been carried out swiftly.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that, keeping in view the bumper wheat production and the Punjab
Government’s instructions for smooth and efficient procurement, 23 temporary mandis have been set up in
addition to 79 permanent mandis in the district. Adequate arrangements have been ensured for the
convenience of farmers and laborers in these mandis. He directed officials to accelerate the lifting process.
Meanwhile, farmers and laborers have also expressed their gratitude to the Punjab Government.
The farmers said that the state government has ensured smooth arrangements in the mandis. They also
thanked the government for the procurement and timely payments.
