JALANDHAR
The Punjab Government has made extensive arrangements in the grain markets to ensure the smooth conduct of the wheat procurement season, prioritizing the convenience of both farmers and labourers. The procurement process is being carried out efficiently across 79 mandis in the district.

Giving more details about the procurement operations, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that a payment of Rs. 239 crores have been ensured so far for the wheat procured by various government agencies. He added that a total of 1,17,150 metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the mandis across the district, out of which 1,13,719 metric tonnes has already been purchased by different procurement agencies.

Dr. Aggarwal mentioned that it is expected that around 5.25 lakh metric tonnes of wheat will arrive in the district’s 79 mandis during this season. Considering the bumper harvest, arrangements have also been made for 23 temporary yards.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to ensure proper procurement, timely lifting, and swift payments to farmers for the successful conclusion of the procurement season.

He reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to purchase every single grain of wheat brought by farmers to the mandis. He assured that there would be no shortage of gunny bags (bardana), and that comprehensive facilities have been provided at the procurement centres for the benefit of both farmers and labourers.
