The Lohian Khas police have booked a deceased smuggler and two arrested smugglers on charges of attacking police.
Station house officer (SHO)Labh Singh said that the accused have been identified as Gurprret Singh alias Gopi (deceased) a resident of Kutbi Wal village and Lovpreet Singh alias Labha son of Jogindar Singh a resident of the same village and Rohit alias Rohi son of Ram Lal a resident of Mandala village.
Assistant sub inspector of police CIA Jalandhar Rajbir Singh said in his statement that during a chase against three drug smugglers, Gurpreet Alias Gopi fired at ASI Mandeep Singh, following which Gopi was injured in retaliatory firing and later died in hospital.
He said a CIA went to Kutbi Wal village on the basis of a secret information and when the police team was checking three suspected persons firing took place and two other smugglers were arrested identified as Rohit alias Rohi son of Ram Pal a resident of Mandala Chhana village and Love Preet Singh alias Labha son of Jogindar Singh a resident of Kutbi Wal village and recovered 100 grams heroin ,one pistol 30 bore ,three live cartridges and one empty cartridge and other sharp edged weapons from their possession who are notorious smugglers with many cases against them and the deceased .
ASI said that the accused opened fire at police with intention to kill
SHO said a case under sections 109(attempt to murder)111(organised crime) 132 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) 221(obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and3(5) (committing crime with common intention) of the BNS and section 21(b) 61/85 of the NDPS Act and sections 25(6) 25(7) 25(8) of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.
