Two Nakodar village residents arrested for defacing Ambedkar statue in Phillaur

 

 


PHILLAUR

The Phillaur police have arrested two accused on the charges of writing Khalistani slogans on the statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in Nangal village. The accused have been identified as Sukhveer Singh son of Kulvindar Singh and Avtar Singh son of Preem Singh residents of Nurpur Chatha village under Nakodar Sadar police station.

Jalandhar DIG Naveen Singla said a case was registered under sections 299 (outraging religious feelings) and 113(terrorist Act) of the BNS and sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The DIG said the accused had been involved in multiple acts of provocation over the last month, including putting up Khalistani slogans and flags at educational institutions, government buildings and public infrastructure in Nakodar, Jalandhar, Delhi and Una.

A motorcycle and four mobile phones were also seized, which are now under forensic examination.
