CHANDIGARH
– The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing crackdown on corruption, on Thursday arrested Pawan Kumar, a deed writer at Sub-Tehsil Goraya in Jalandhar district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
An official spokesperson of the VB revealed that the arrest was made based on an online complaint filed by a resident of Phagwara on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded and accepted the bribe on behalf of Joint Sub-Registrar of Sub-Tehsil Goraya in Tehsil Phillaur and a Registry Clerk, posted at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Goraya, in connection with the execution of a sale deed.
During the investigation, the VB found the allegations to be true, leading to the arrest of the accused deed writer. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Range Jalandhar. He will be produced before the competent court tomorrow.
