To curb road accidents, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today instructed officials from various departments to launch large-scale awareness campaigns during a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee.

During the meeting at the District Administrative Complex, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Major Dr. Amit Mahajan, officials from different departments, NGOs, and committee members participated. The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that "National Road Safety Month" is being observed until January 31 to create awareness about traffic rules among the public. He directed the transport and police departments to collaborate with education, municipal corporations, and other departments to conduct maximum awareness activities. He suggested holding camps/seminars at schools, colleges, truck unions, and public places to educate residents about road safety.

Dr. Aggarwal also instructed SDMs to organize road safety awareness activities within their respective jurisdictions. To prevent accidents caused by stray animals, he directed municipal corporations and councils to put reflective belts on stray animals roaming on the roads.

He advised PSPCL officials to immediately fix low-hanging or exposed electric wires on roads to prevent accidents. Additionally, he instructed the municipal corporation to ensure patchwork on damaged roads to enhance road safety.

Emphasizing the importance of student safety under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, Dr. Aggarwal stated that all school vehicles must comply with safety standards. He instructed officials to act against overloaded autos and other vehicles transporting students beyond their capacity. He also appealed to parents to support this campaign to ensure their children's safety.

Directing traffic police to strictly enforce traffic rules, the Deputy Commissioner stated that violations of traffic laws would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He urged district residents to fulfil their social responsibility by adhering to traffic rules and cooperating with road safety initiatives.

During the meeting, Dr. Aggarwal reviewed actions taken against violations such as overloading, drunk driving, underage driving, and other traffic offenses. He also directed immediate action to address identified black spots to reduce accidents.

The meeting was attended by SDMs Balbir Raj Singh, Lal Vishwas, Amanpal Singh, representatives of NGOs, and officials from various departments.
