Under the aegis of the 2 Punjab Battalion, a discussion was held on the Indian Freedom Struggle at DAV University. On the birth anniversary of Udham Singh, ideas were expressed on the lives of countless freedom fighters like Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, Baba Gurdit Singh, Sohan Singh Bhakna, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Madan Lal Dhingra. Their dedication and sacrifices for the country were discussed by the cadets. NCC cadets from DAV University and Lyallpur Khalsa College participated in speech and debate competitions and expressed their views on freedom fighters and nationalist movements.
Col. Vinod Joshi, Commanding Officer, 2 Punjab NCC, Battalion said that in the 90-year struggle, three generations participated in agitations, rallies, and sacrifices and drove the British out of the country. The nation always salutes these freedom fighters and will remain indebted to their sacrifices. He said that the real name of Udham Singh was Sher Singh. He traveled to London and assassinated the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Michael O'Dwyer, who had ordered the gruesome Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Nationalist Udham Singh was sentenced to death on 31 July 1940. In the debate competition on Freedom Struggle, Sergeant Samridhi Kaushal, Lyallpur Khalsa College won first place, Corporal Vimal Kumar Saini, DAV University got second place and Corporal Jatin Kumar, Lyallpur Khalsa College got third place.
