The Nakodar city police are reeling from an acute staff shortage. There are only 38 police personnel, against a sanctioned strength of 102.
One sub-inspector post out of two sanctioned posts is vacant, and one assistant sub-inspector post is vacant out of five sanctioned posts. There are 14 posts of Head constable out of which 10 are vacant.
Of the 80 constable posts, 59 are vacant. Sources said Home Guards volunteers were doing the job of constables, patrolling had been reduced, and investigations were suffering. As a result, thefts are increasing daily.
Jalandhar (rural) SSP HPS KHAKH said that we are comfortably manning police stations in the district.
