In a breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police arrested Amritpal Singh alias Amba, a notorious criminal involved in multiple heinous cases, including drug trafficking, armed robbery, and attempted murder.
The arrest was made during a special operation in Phillaur, The operation was led by Sanjiv Kapur, SHO Philla, and DSP Phillaur Sarwan Singh Bal, as part of a district-wide campaign to eliminate drug trafficking and criminal activities.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that Amritpal Singh had been evading arrest for more than five years by frequently changing his identity and location. His involvement in drug smuggling, cross-firing incidents, and other violent crimes posed a grave threat to public safety.
Amritpal Singh alias Amba, a resident of Uppal Khalsa under Nurmahal Police Station, had 15 criminal cases registered against him. These included two cases of attempted murder, one case of armed robbery, two cases of criminal conspiracy and preparation for dacoity, two theft cases, one case of drug trafficking under the NDPS Act, one fake currency case, and one case under the Prison Act. He had been declared a Proclaimed Offender in five cases, including a 2017 NDPS Act case registered at Phillaur Police Station, a cross-firing case at Nurmahal Police Station, and other serious offenses involving armed dacoity and theft.
“Amritpal Singh’s arrest is a significant achievement in dismantling organized crime and eliminating drug trafficking networks in the district,” SSP Khakh said.
