In its ongoing crackdown against drug smugglers, Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested eight individuals in seven separate cases during the past 24 hours. The operations, conducted across various subdivisions of Jalandhar Rural, resulted in the recovery of 504 narcotic pills, ₹1,500 in drug money, 47 grams of opium, three motorcycles, and one luxury car.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kushal, son of Kamal, a resident of Rojari Bhogpur; Jatinder Singh alias Raju, son of Tilak Raj, a resident of Ghana Pind village, Phillaur; Hina, wife of Jatinder Singh, a resident of Ghana Pind village, Phillaur; Jaspinder Singh, a resident of Nandanpur; Surinder Singh, a resident of Shahkot; Jagjivan Lal, a resident of Nakodar; Suraj, a resident of Ganna Pind, Phillaur; and Simran, wife of Suraj Kumar, a resident of Ganna Village, Phillaur.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that operations are being closely monitored by DSP-ranked officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure maximum impact. Special police teams have been constituted under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath to tackle street crime and drug smuggling from the grassroots level.
The arrests and recoveries were achieved through coordinated efforts and heightened security measures. The Bhogpur Police Station team apprehended a youth during a naka operation, recovering 174 narcotic pills from his possession. The Phillaur Police Station team arrested a man and his wife at a drug sale point, recovering 105 narcotic pills and ₹1,500 in drug money. The Sadar Nakodar Police Station team arrested one individual at a checkpoint and recovered a stolen motorcycle from his possession during frisking. Similarly, the Bhogpur Police Station team intercepted a Tata Harrier car at a high-tech checkpoint and recovered 47 grams of opium concealed in the dashboard. The car was seized on the spot, and the accused was booked immediately. At another checkpoint in Nakodar, the city police team apprehended a suspect who tried to flee and discarded an envelope by the roadside. Upon investigation, 105 narcotic pills were recovered from the envelope, and the suspect’s bike was seized. Lastly, acting on a tip-off, the Phillaur Police team stopped a suspect near Ganna Village and recovered 70 narcotic pills concealed on his bike. Further questioning led to the recovery of 50 additional pills from his wife in Ganna Village, and both were subsequently booked.
Seven FIRs have been registered in these cases under the NDPS Act and other relevant provisions at different police stations.
