Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the District Administrative Complex to ensure safe traffic movement during the upcoming foggy winter season.
Dr. Aggarwal directed various departments to implement preventive measures to minimize road accidents caused by poor visibility. He emphasized the importance of fixing black spots and installing reflective and fog lights on vehicles to enhance road safety. He also underscored significance of curtailing movement of stray cattle on roads, especially during poor visibility in fog. He also instructed the traffic police to launch a special awareness drive to promote safe driving practices during fog including use of emergency lights, slow driving in low visibility.
Reviewing other traffic issues, Dr. Aggarwal asked the Education Department and Traffic Police to conduct awareness campaigns to educate students, parents, and the general public about traffic rules. Additionally, he asked the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation to adjust the timings of traffic lights at major intersections in accordance with traffic flow to streamline traffic movement. He also asked traffic police to address traffic jams at Rama Mandi Chowk caused by unauthorized bus halt.
The DC also reviewed plans for traffic management during festivals and religious events and issued strict instructions to address overloading, underage driving, drunk driving, and road encroachments. Officials from various departments and committee members attended the meeting, committing to take the necessary steps to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement.
