In a swift response to safeguard communal harmony, the Jalandhar Rural Police have booked a man for allegedly making derogatory remarks against revered saints in a viral video. The offensive content, which spread widely on social media, sparked outrage in the community and raised concerns about public peace.
The accused has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar alias Bunty, son of Makhan Ram, a resident of Paddi Khalsa, a village under Goraya police station, Jalandhar who currently residing in Italy.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that acts of religious provocation would be met with strict action. “The Punjab Police is committed to upholding peace and ensuring swift action against offenders,” he said.
The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Phillaur Sarwan Singh Bal. The SHO of Goraya Police Station initiated the inquiry with his team. The complainant, Gulshan Kumar, a resident of Musandpur village and district president of the Dr. Ambedkar Sena of India (Jalandhar Rural), reported the matter to the police after receiving the inflammatory video.
A dedicated technical team of the Jalandhar Rural Police reviewed the viral video and confirmed its authenticity. The team worked closely with social media monitoring units to secure key evidence and trace the source of the content.
SSP said a case under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious belief)and 352 () intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the accused at Goray police station.
“The Jalandhar Rural Police stand firm on a zero-tolerance policy against acts of communal provocation and will take all necessary steps to maintain peace,” SSP Khakh stated.
