The Shahkot police have arrested a truck driver and his cleaner and booked two main accused on the charge of smuggling poppy husk.
Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar and Investigating Officer (IO) Gurnam Singh said the arrested accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Happy son of Darshan singh a resident of Kathu Nangal village in Amrit Sar district and Varindar Singh alias Raju son of Malkit Singh a resident of Nawa Thatha village under Talwandi Chaudhariya police station in Kapurthala.
IO said the booked accused have been identified as Sonu son of Boharr Singh a resident of Dole Wal village under Kot Esse Khan police station in Moga and Karan son of Parmatma Singh a resident of Saichan village under Sultan Pur Lodhi police station in Kapurthala.
IO said the police had received a piece of secret information that Sonu and Karan were big smugglers and purchased poppy husk at cheap rates from other states and sold contraband at high prices in cities and villages of Punjab.
IO said they have loaded poppy husk in a truck (HP-12-D-8481) which was being driven by Harpreet Singh and Varidar Singh was attached with him as a cleaner.
Gurnam Singh said the truck was coming from Moga side which was intercepted at Naka and recovered 105 kilograms loaded in the vehicle and arrested both the driver and his cleaner.
IO said that a case under sections 15-C-/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and impounder trick and raids are being conducted to nab absconding smugglers.
