The Cyber Crime Police Station of Jalandhar (rural) police has booked a Shankar villager on the charge of harassing a woman by creating her fake social media I/D
Investigating Officer (IO) Inspector Arash Deep Kaur said the accused has been identified as Gurbir Singh son of Karnail Singh, resident of Pati -Pure Wal, Shankar village resident under Nakodar Sadar police station.
Mukesh Chawala, a resident of Shankar village, complained to the police that the accused created a fake Facebook I/D of his wife gave her mobile number, and used it to chat with others personating the victim and distributed her mobile number on other social media sites to unknown people.
He said unknown people started sending wrong and obscene photos on his wife‘s WhatsApp number.
IO said the accused had confessed his crime in a statement. A case under sections 66-C,66-C-67, and 67-A of the Information Technology Act 2000 has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is on.
