The Punjab School Education Department has submitted a report to the Punjab Human Rights Commission stating that the construction of the incomplete building of Nurmahal Senior Secondary School will begin soon.
Abhishek, senior assistant in the Office of Director of School Education Punjab said in his interim report that maps have been drawn for the construction of the school building and a rough cost estimate has been prepared by PWD. Upon receipt of the cost estimate, the budget will be requested from the Finance Department.
He said in the report that a NO Objection Certificate (NOC) has been issued by the National Monuments Authority for the construction of the remaining building.
He said another communication has been received from the office of the Executive Engineer, Construction Division (B&R), Branch, Jalandhar stating that the present complaint is related to District Education Officer, Jalandhar.
The Punjab Human Rights Commission was hearing a complaint submitted by Nakodar Social Activist Aditya Bhatara alias Mannu and said in its order that the Director of School Education, Punjab is directed to submit the status report one week before the next date of hearing March 3, 2025.
The construction of the new building of the Government Senior Secondary School (co-education) has remained incomplete for the last eight years following the non-release of funds by the government.
The then Nakodar MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala on December 14, 2016, laid the foundation for the construction of the new building.
New buildings became necessary as school faced a shortage of classrooms after the demolition of a condemned building in 2012.
