Jalandhar rural police warn marriage palaces against firearms

JALANDHAR

In a significant move to curb the display of firearms at wedding celebrations, the Jalandhar Rural Police has launched a comprehensive crackdown across the district. Following stringent directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, senior police officials today held marathon meetings with marriage palace operators, warning them of strict action for any violations.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the initiative covered 89 marriage palace establishments spread across various subdivisions. "We have made it clear that no firearms will be tolerated within marriage palace premises. The owners have been served copies of the DC's prohibitory orders," said Khakh.

The meetings, chaired by subdivision police officers, saw participation from 34, 22, and 33 marriage palace representatives respectively from their jurisdictions.

"Senior officers will conduct surprise checks during the wedding season. Any violation will invite immediate FIR against the palace owners," a senior police official said, adding that the drive aims to ensure incident-free wedding celebrations in the district.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the display of weapons during wedding ceremonies in Punjab. Sources revealed that police teams would maintain extra vigilance during the upcoming wedding season, with a special focus on high-profile celebrations.

Meanwhile, marriage palace owners have assured full cooperation with the authorities. The police department has also urged the public to report any violations of these orders through official channels.
