Administration bats for widening of PAP flyover

JALANDHAR.

In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion for city commuters heading towards Amritsar and Pathankot Road, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today inspected the PAP Chowk flyover. Joined by DIG PAP Inderbir Singh and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Dr. Aggarwal evaluated potential solutions to streamline traffic flow and reduce the detour to Rama Mandi Chowk, which city residents currently use to access the Amritsar and Pathankot Highway.

During his inspection, Dr. Aggarwal proposed expanding the existing flyover by merging the adjacent green belt to create additional lanes, thus accommodating a higher volume of vehicles. He also suggested constructing a new ramp to connect traffic from Jalandhar City directly to the PAP flyover, significantly reducing commute times for those heading towards Amritsar and Pathankot.

Directing PWD and NHAI officials to develop a comprehensive design plan, Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the importance of quick implementation, instructing them to prepare and submit a proposal within one week. This plan, once approved by the government, aims to resolve long-standing traffic issues at PAP Chowk, a critical junction connecting routes from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the inconvenience faced by city residents, Dr. Aggarwal stated that the new ramp and expanded flyover would simplify access to Amritsar and Pathankot roads, providing long-awaited relief at this high-traffic junction. He stated that it would also provide relief from traffic in Jammu as the vehicular movement will drastically reduce after opening this new ramp towards Amritsar.
