Continuing its crackdown on drug smuggling, the Jalandhar Rural Police achieved another success with the arrest of a drug peddler and recovery of 480 grams of opium concealed in a specially modified scooter compartment.
The accused has been identified as Tajinderpal Singh, alias Teji, a resident of Ward No. 7, Lohian Khas. Police have also seized his white TVS Jupiter scooter (PB08-DL-8723) that was used to transport the contraband.
The senior superintendent Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told media said following a tip-off, a police team from Lohian Police Station led by Station House Officer, Yadwinder Singh under the supervision of DSP Shahkot Onkar Singh Brar, established a high-tech checkpoint in Lohian area.
"During checking, Inspector Yadwinder Singh and his team intercepted the scooter. A thorough search led to the discovery of opium hidden in a modified compartment specially designed for drug smuggling," the SSP Khakh said.
A case under Sections 18/-61/-85 /of the NDPS Act has been registered at Lohian Police Station.
The SSP warned that the drive against drug trafficking would continue with full force, and anyone found involved would face strict legal
action.
