Opium smuggling racket busted; one held with 2.31 kg contraband

 

JALANDHAR,

The Jalandhar rural police have dismantled an interstate opium smuggling racket, seizing 2.31 kg of opium and intercepting a truck used in transporting the narcotics from Jharkhand to Punjab.

The arrested accused has been identified as Satnam Singh alias Satta, son of Buta Singh, a resident of Khunda village under, Police Station Dhariwal police station, Gurdaspur.

 Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that the police are committed to eradicating drug trafficking from Punjab. “This operation aligns with our larger mission to root out drug networks that threaten our communities. The Jalandhar Rural Police will continue to pursue and dismantle these dangerous operations,” he stated.

Inspector Pushap Bali and his team intercepted the suspect’s truck near GT Road, Patara. Upon searching, the police discovered 2.31 kg of opium concealed in a compartment behind the driver’s seat.

 A case under sections 18-B/ 61/ 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Patara police station.

 

 Preliminary questioning revealed that Satnam Singh had purchased the opium from Jharkhand for distribution across Punjab. The accused confessed to personal consumption and had planned to sell the remaining quantity at retail prices. Additionally, it was discovered that he has a criminal record, including a previous sentence served in Tihar Jail.
