Punjab government  striving for welfare of animals  livestock owners: Minister

 


JALANDHAR: Punjab's Horticulture, Freedom Fighters, and Defence Welfare Minister, Mahinder Bhagat, today launched a district-level vaccination campaign at Panchvati Gaushala, Basti Gujjan, to protect animals from foot-and-mouth disease.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab government has launched a state-wide campaign to protect animals from foot-and-mouth disease, under which free vaccination for animals is being carried out. He mentioned that livestock plays a vital role in Punjab's economy, and keeping this in mind, the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously striving for the welfare of animals and livestock owners.

He informed that under this campaign, the Jalandhar district has received 338,600 doses of the vaccine, and 28 teams have been formed in the district to efficiently carry out this important task. He further mentioned that officials and employees of the department will reach out to livestock owners to vaccinate their animals. He appealed to livestock owners to ensure their animals are vaccinated to protect them from the damage caused by foot-and-mouth disease.

On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister also announced a grant of Rs. 2 lakh for Panchvati Gaushala.

During the event, under the guidance of Ashok Kumar Singla, Chairman of the Punjab Gau Sewa Aayog, a cow welfare camp was also organized, where medicines worth Rs. 25,000 were given to the management of the Gaushala to ensure that stray animals could be treated if needed.

Earlier, the Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Jalandhar, Dr. Ram Murti Mattu, along with other officials, welcomed the Cabinet Minister upon his arrival at the Gaushala.
