Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Friday inaugurated a kitchen garden at the Anganwadi Centre in Dhandowal village to promote nutritious food. While participating in the event organized by the Department of Social Security, Women, and Child Development during the ‘Sampoornta Abhiyan,’ he stated that Shahkot had been chosen as an aspirational block. He mentioned that various activities are being conducted here under various welfare programs. He said that kitchen gardens will be established at Anganwadi centers in 30 villages of Shahkot Block. These kitchen gardens will cultivate plants rich in nutrients, aimed at ensuring the health of women and children. He also said that this initiative will inspire local people to plant nutritious crops at home. Parks will be developed under MGNREGA and asked the DPO to send a proposal of this. He was also apprised about various activities being held under Sakhi One Stop Center and the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner also tasted the food being prepared for the children at the Anganwadi centre to assess its quality and expressed satisfaction. On this occasion, a hemoglobin testing campaign for girls was also launched in collaboration with CHC Shahkot. He also viewed a nutritional exhibition set up by Anganwadi workers. He planted a sapling as part of the ‘ Ek Rukh Maa De Naam’ campaign.
