DC reviews paddy procurement at grain markets in Nakodar, Shahkot: emphasizes prompt lifting

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today visited grain markets in Nakodar and Shahkot sub-divisions to oversee the ongoing paddy procurement operations. He reviewed the procurement process and issued necessary directions regarding the timely lifting of crops and payments to farmers. Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that any delays in these processes would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against negligent staff.

During his visit, the DC interacted with farmers and gathered feedback on the procurement operations. He assured them that the administration was fully committed to ensuring smooth procurement and prompt payments.

Dr. Aggarwal provided an update on the district’s procurement status, revealing that 115,882 metric tons (MT) of paddy have arrived at the markets, with procurement agencies purchasing 109,232 MT so far. He also noted that a total payment of Rs. 211 crores has been made to farmers against their crops.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure the smooth and efficient lifting of paddy in all grain markets. He stressed that Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) must closely monitor the operations at procurement centers in their respective areas to prevent any disruptions.

Dr. Aggarwal reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to purchasing every single grain brought by farmers, stating that no effort will be spared in fulfilling this crucial responsibility.
