JALANDHAR

During the Panchayat elections, a massive 66.3% polling occurred peacefully in 695 district Panchayats as the vote counting process was completed immediately after the voting.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal informed that out of the district's 890 Gram Panchayats, 195 Panchayats had already been elected unanimously. He mentioned that the Lohia Khas block had the highest number of 28 unanimously elected Panchayats. Similarly, 25 Panchayats in Jalandhar West Block, 24 in Phillaur, and 20 in Nakodar were elected by consensus. Additionally, 19 Panchayats in Shahkot, 17 in Bhogpur, 15 in Nurmahal, 14 in Rurka Kalan, 13 in Mehtpur, 11 in Adampur, and 9 in Jalandhar East Block were elected unopposed.

Dr. Aggarwal stated that 66.3% of voting took place in 695 villages across the district’s 11 blocks, which include Adampur, Bhogpur, Jalandhar East, Jalandhar West, Lohia Khas, Mehtpur, Nakodar, Nurmahal, Phillaur, Rurka Kalan, and Shahkot. He also mentioned that the total number of voters in the district is 815,033, including 420,756 men, 394,268 women, and 9 other voters. Out of these, 66.3% voters cast their votes.

The Deputy Commissioner thanked the voters and election staff for ensuring the successful and peaceful completion of the election process. 

Dr. Aggarwal shared that 1,004 polling stations were set up in the district, and 7,426 election staff were appointed. He praised the rural police, led by SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, for ensuring proper arrangements for peaceful elections.

Mr. Khakh informed that more than 2,500 rural police officers and personnel were deployed across the district to ensure a peaceful voting process. He thanked the election staff and the voters for their cooperation.
