JALANDHAR

Jalandhar rural police have arrested two drug smugglers and seized 1.2 kg of opium during a special drive to curb drug trafficking in the region. The drugs were reportedly procured from Jharkhand, marking a significant development in inter-state narcotics smuggling.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Roshan Lal, a tailor by profession, son of Darshan Lal, resident of B-2/185 Dilbagh Colony, Goraya, and Narinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh, resident of Mohalla Guru Nanakpura, Goraya.

SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that a team, led by Inspector Palwinder Singh, SHO of Goraya Police Station,  was on routine patrolling and checking operation. The police team successfully intercepted the duo riding a PB-08-CV-9704 scooter near Puli Nehar Kamalpur. Upon searching the suspects, the police recovered 1.2 kg of opium, concealed in two separate packets of 600 grams each.

The accused told during interrogation that Roshan Lal had procured the opium from Jharkhand, and Narinder Singh was acting as his courier. Narinder Singh brought the narcotics from Jharkhand via train and was en route to deliver it to Roshan Lal’s customers in the region.

A case has been registered under sections 18(B)/29/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Goraya.
"The Jalandhar rural police remain committed to eradicating drug trafficking in the district and will continue their relentless efforts to dismantle drug networks operating across state borders," said SSP Khakh.
