Jail-linked drug racket busted; two held with 3 kg opium

 

 



JALANDHAR

In a breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 03 kg of opium, busting a drug racket being operated from within the jail. The arrests were made as part of a special campaign launched to crack down on drug traffickers in the region.

The arrested accused have been identified as Amandeep Singh alias Kaka, son of Darshan Kumar, resident of Shati Nagar Bajwara Kalan, Police Station Sadar Hoshiarpur, and  Mandeep Singh, son of Sukhdev Singh, resident of Leela Megh Singh, Police Station Sidhwa Bet, District Ludhiana.

Speaking to the press media, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh shared that, the operation was conducted by Inspector Ravinderpal Singh, SHO of Adampur Police Station under the supervision of DSP Adampur Sumit Sood. During a routine patrolling and checking operation near Dussehra Ground Chowk, Alawalpur, the police team intercepted two suspicious individuals riding on a Honda Activa scooter (PB-07-CA-3297). On being signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee, abandoning a bag. The police swiftly apprehended both individuals and upon searching the bags, discovered 02 kg of opium packed in separate envelopes.

The accused during preliminary interrogation, revealed that the opium business was being orchestrated by ringleaders from inside jail. Further investigation will focus on their digital footprints to establish forward and backward links in the drug network.

In this regard a FIR No. 132 under section 21/61/85 NDPS Act registered against both the Individual at police station Adampur. The kingpin who is operating from the jail has also been nominated in the case.


SSP Khakh issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, stating, "We will continue to tighten the noose around anyone involved in drug trafficking. Our operations will intensify, and we will ensure that no individual involved in these illegal activities is spared."
