Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab's Local Government Minister Balkar Singh today reviewed the status of streetlights, roads, sewage, and cleanliness in the city, issuing directions to the officials to resolve these issues promptly.
In a meeting held with MLA Raman Arora, Punjab Safai Karamchari Commission Chairman Chandan Garewal, ACS Tejveer Singh, and senior officials from the Local Government Department and the Municipal Corporation, the Minister discussed these issues in detail. He instructed that all street lights be made operational within 15 days, with immediate corrective action taken where necessary.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing a clean and pollution-free environment, the Minister emphasized the need for special attention to city cleanliness and the sewage system. He said that sewage cleaning should be ensured from time to time so that sewage pipes are not blocked.
Taking stock of the problem of water accumulation in Ram Nagar, Ghazigulla, Dakoha, Dhanowali areas of the city, he asked the officials of the municipal corporation to solve these issue as soon as possible so that the people of these areas can be relieved. Meanwhile, for a permanent solution to the problem of water accumulation at Dakoha, the Municipal Corporation proposed a new sewage line and named it Bambiawal STP upon which the Minister asked the corporation to to forward the proposal.
Directing the officials to ensure cleanliness in the city, the cabinet minister said that special attention should be given to make the city garbage free and clean. He said that by identifying garbage places in the city, their cleanliness should be ensured daily. He also asked the officials to ensure personal supervision of this work.
While reviewing the ongoing work of the city's roads, he gave instructions to complete this work quickly. He said that for the convenience of the people, the works related to construction and repair of roads should be carried out based on priority.
On this occasion, Special Secretary of Local Government Department Deepti Uppal, Special Secretary Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jalandhar Gautam Jain, and Additional Commissioner Amarjit Bains were present.
