The Jalandhar (rural) police have arrested five accused in connection with the brutal attack on Gurdawar Singh, the ex-Sarpanch of Selkianna village in Phillaur sub-division. The arrests have also led to the busting of a drug trafficking network operating in Ganna village, with the arrest of the key supplier, Sukhi alias Mato.
The arrested accused have been identified as Taranjit Singh, son of Bikramjit Singh, resident of Gharkhana, Samrala, Ludhiana, Gurinder Singh, son of Nirmal Singh, resident of Man Nagar, Daba Road, Ludhiana, Mani Bhatia, son of Pradeep Bhatia, resident of Pangaltana, Zirakpur, Mohali. Gurwinder Singh, son of Kulwant Singh, resident of Gianpur, Sahnewal, Ludhiana, and Amritpal Singh, son of Jagtar Singh, resident of Village Seh, Samrala, Ludhiana.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh told the media that arrests are part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal elements in the district. This operation not only solved the ex-- Sarpanch attack case but also led to the unearthing of a significant drug racket.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DSP Sarwan Singh of Phillaur and SHO Sukhdev Singh of Phillaur Police Station.
The accused have launched a violent attack on Gurdawar Singh at his residence in Selkianna village, leaving him severely injured. Armed with sharp weapons, the group vandalized his home and kidnapped his daughter. Following detailed investigations, the police arrested the five accused who were also involved in a drug trafficking operation in Ganna village.
During the raid, police recovered a substantial amount of narcotics, and ₹2 lakh drug money, and seized two vehicles—a Scorpio and an I-20—used for smuggling.
SSP said a case under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 331(1) (house trespass), and 137(1) (kidnapping) of the BNS has been registered against the accused who are habitual criminals with many cases against them.
