Central team reviews Jal Shakti Abhiyan initiatives in Jalandhar

To review progress made under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a Central team comprising Vivek Gupta, Director of the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi, and Central Nodal Officer for the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, along with Technical Officer and Scientist Naima Akhtar today visited Jalandhar district to inspect the ongoing activities under this scheme

The visit aimed to evaluate the progress of various rainwater harvesting and water conservation measures implemented in the region.

During their visit, the Central team held comprehensive discussions with district officers and other stakeholders involved in the mission. The deliberations provided an in-depth understanding of the various projects underway in Jalandhar, focusing on sustainable water management practices. The officers also showcased best practices in terms of water conservation in the district. 

The team visited multiple locations in Phillaur and Adampur to review the progress of different aspects of the scheme, including rainwater harvesting, water conservation, and the geo-tagging of water bodies. They also evaluated the preparation of scientific plans for water conservation tailored to the specific needs of the district. The establishment of Jal Shakti Kendras in all districts was another key area of focus.

The officials also reviewed the implementation of intensive afforestation efforts and the rejuvenation of small rivers. The construction and development of Amrit Sarovars (ponds) under Mission Amrit Sarovar were inspected, along with efforts towards de-silting and cleaning existing water bodies. The revitalization of abandoned or defunct bore wells for groundwater recharge was another significant initiative under scrutiny.

Additionally, the team visited various projects, including rainwater harvesting systems, Sanjha Jal Talab (community water ponds), plantation drives, Thapar model ponds, soil conservation projects, and nurseries. The Central team emphasized the importance of continued efforts to achieve the mission's objectives.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa said that this visit underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring effective water conservation and management practices across the district, particularly where water scarcity is a pressing issue. He further mentioned that all the projects under this mission were being executed speedily.
