Special revision of electoral rolls begins

JALANDHAR

As part of the special summary revision of electoral rolls based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2025, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have commenced door-to-door verification of voter details from today. This process will continue until September 20, 2024.

Providing further information, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that during the survey, BLOs will verify the details of voters already listed in the electoral roll to ensure there are no errors. The BLOs will also collect data on young individuals who are yet to register as voters, prospective eligible voters, deceased or relocated individuals, and duplicate entries in the electoral roll.

The verification will be conducted by BLOs using the BLO app on their mobile phones. Dr. Aggarwal mentioned that any person in the household who has turned 18 but has not yet registered as a voter can fill out Form 6 to register as a new voter. Similarly, those who have passed away, moved to another location, or have multiple entries can use Form 7 to request the deletion of their names from the roll. For any corrections in the existing voter details, individuals can submit Form 8 through the respective BLO.

The District Election Officer appealed to the general public and voters to cooperate fully with the BLOs in this initiative launched by the Election Commission.

It is noteworthy that as per the ongoing summary revision program, the draft publication of the electoral roll is scheduled for October 29, 2024. Claims and objections from the public will be accepted until November 28, 2024. The disposal of received claims and objections will be completed by December 24, 2024, and the final publication of the electoral roll will be done on January 6, 2025.
