“So far, there is no attack of the pink bollworm on the cotton crop though the department has installed about 500 Ferimon traps to check the insects infestation on the crop,” said Dr Amrik Singh, chief agriculture officer Faridkot.
He further said that because of the very hot and humid weather and delayed rainfall, the weather conditions have been favourable for the attack of white fly on cotton.
He said that the department has formed 12,2 and 1 inspection teams at the the level of circle,block and district respectively.
Our teams visit the fields and carry out inspections on each Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
“If the economic threshold limit of 6 insects per leaf is crossed during the morning inspection of the fields, the farmers must spray the recommended insecticides,” he said.
But the agriculture department has appealed to the farmers not to spray those chemicals which are not recommended by the agricultural varsity and the department because those may lead to severe attack of the other insects too.
He asked the farmers to seek the experts opinions about their problems and act according to save their money and time.
