JALANDHAR

In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the CIA team of Jalandhar Rural Police successfully dismantled an interstate opium racket, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 2 kilograms of opium.

The accused have been identified as Usma Khan, wife of the late Amran Ajaj, from PS Atroli, District Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh; Junaid Ansari, son of Babu Ahmid, and Adarsh Kumar, son of Bhajan Lal, both residents of Village Majh Gawan, PS Bisarat Gang, District Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests were made in the PS Lambra area, where the police intercepted the suspects and recovered the contraband.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, while divulging details to the media, highlighted the concerted efforts of the police to curb drug smuggling in the region. "Special police teams have been constituted across all subdivisions of Jalandhar Rural under the supervision of gazetted rank officers to intensify the crackdown on drug smugglers.

Acting on credible information, a police team led by the Inspector of CIA, Pushap Bali established special checkpoints near Rampur Laliana on Lambra Road," SSP Khakh stated.

The arrested individuals confessed to procuring the opium from Jharkhand at a price of ₹2,60,000, to sell it further for ₹3,00,000. Upon its further sale, the accused expected to earn ₹7,000 each. This operation has exposed a crucial link between drug suppliers in Jharkhand and distributors in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the interstate nature of the drug trade. The police are now focusing on uncovering the broader network involved in this illegal trade.

A case under a section of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Lambra Police Station
