Punjab Pollution Control Board organizes awareness camp on Chinese kite string

 The Punjab Pollution Control Board today organized an awareness camp in the district to educate the public about the dangers of using Chinese kite strings. Executive Engineer Mr. Sanjiv stated that the camp was held at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Government School in Jandu Singha, and Suchi Pind, targeting children and young people to highlight the harmful effects of these strings.

He emphasized that the Punjab Government has imposed a complete ban on the sale, purchase, manufacturing, and storage of Chinese kite strings. Violators of this ban order will be prosecuted under Section 15 of the Environmental Protection Act, which prescribes penalties including up to 5 years of imprisonment, a fine of Rs. One lakh, or both.

The Executive Engineer also mentioned that officials from the Revenue Department, Local Bodies Department, and Punjab Pollution Control Board have been notified to enforce this ban. He highlighted those following directions from Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, a special awareness and enforcement drive has been launched against the use of Chinese kite strings.

He assured that strict action will be taken against those found using, selling, or storing the prohibited strings, reinforcing the government's commitment to curbing this menace and protecting the environment and public safety.
