In a rapid response to a violent incident stemming from a long-standing land dispute, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested three individuals allegedly involved in a brutal attack on a family in Pipli village. The swift action comes less than 24 hours after the incident was reported.
On the evening of August 3, 2024, a group of assailants forcibly entered the residence of. Balwinder Singh, a former Kashmir Corps serviceman, in Pipli village. The attackers, reportedly armed with firearms and sharp weapons, assaulted. Singh and his family members caused significant injuries. The arrested accused have been identified as Sukh jeevan Singh alias Gaggu son of Kuldeep Singh a resident of Talwan village under Bilga Police Station , Amandeep Singh alias Amna son of Lahimbar Singh aloas reesident of Talwan village d Pupinder Singh alias Pindu son of Gurmail Singh resident of Lohgar village under Goraya police station.
Divulging more details to the media, the Senior Superintendent of Police for Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said that following a complaint lodged by Mrs. Kashmir Kaur, wife of Mr. Balwinder Singh, SHO of Lohian Khas Police Station, Bakshish Singh, under the supervision of DSP Anil Bhanot, immediately started the probe and registered FIR No. 55 at Lohian Police Station. This was done under Sections 333, 109, 118(1), 115(2), 309, 61(2), 351(2), 191(3), and 190 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25 of the Arms Act. Three different police teams were formed and have started the investigation. The police acted swiftly, arresting three suspects within hours of the complaint being filed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was orchestrated by two NRI brothers, Dara Singh and Darbara Singh, both residents of Talwandi Butia who currently reside in England. The brothers allegedly hired local gangster Amandeep Singh Amna to carry out the attack, with the motive of forcibly occupying approximately 10.5 acres of land.
Our investigation has revealed that an advance payment of ₹2 lakh was made to the hired assailants, with a total promised sum of ₹3 lakhs," the SSP Khakh added.
In the course of their investigation, the police recovered a car (Alto, number PB-12-AG-9956) and a motorcycle (Bajaj, number PB-08-AE-8753) allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The arrested individuals are scheduled to be presented before the court, where the police party will seek remand for further interrogation. Authorities are also in the process of issuing lookout notices for the NRI brothers alleged to be the masterminds behind the attack. The different police teams have been conducting raids to apprehend the remaining culprits who are involved in this brutal incident, said SSP Khakh.
