“Faridkot has comparatively less crime than most of the other districts, but as the sacrilege incidents took place in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari villages which later led to Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura indents, the district is a bit sensitive,” said Harjeet Singh, a 2010 batch IPS officer who has been serving as SSP Faridkot.
He was transferred to the office of the DGP vigilance Bureau SAS Nagar,on August 2.
“If we compare the district with others as far the crime is concerned, Faridkot has less crime. But as the modern jail Faridkot houses the thousands of undertrials and prisoners' from many other districts, it is a tension for us as we are committed to stop crime and eradicate drugs,” he said when asked about his experience as SSP Faridkot.
A man of simplicity, which is rare among the bureaucrats, Harjeet Singh is known as a down to earth officer of IPS rank, who is always open to meeting the people to redress their grievances.
“Yes, I keep the doors of my office open and do not use Air conditioning(ACs) much. I like to serve the people of my district as much as I can. Even when it rains or there is very good weather, I like the windows of the office open. It looks good on me,” he said.
A great lover of Nature, he also has an interest in reading literature.
“I keep reading literature but I am particularly a lover of Nature. It found it very pleasant in Faridkot that the district is very rich in nature. It has considerable area under natural wealth in the form of dense trees, plants and shrubbery. There are many plants and very old trees here which give one peace of mind and solace. In the lap of nature, working becomes more pleasant,” he said.
“I found the district very nice to work with the people and police here. This was my first posting in the Zone. Though earlier, I was posted in Barnala, but it falls under Patiala Zone. There were some issues of Bhartia Kissan Union Sidhupur-Ekta(Dallewal) here, but otherwise it has been very peaceful.
In February, Faridkot police, under the headship of Harjeet Singh, had also arrested PO and an absconder Pradeep Kaler, from Gurugram who was wanted in a very high profile case of sacrilege of 2015.

“I appeal to the youth to not use cars and motorcycles, focus on studies,health and never touch drugs,” he said.
