Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has directed the officials of the Revenue Department and other related departments to expedite the voter registration process for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections.
During a meeting held at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the last date for voter registration for SGPC elections has now been extended to September 16, 2024.
He instructed that the voter registration process for the SGPC elections should be conducted in mission mode.
Dr. Aggarwal advised the officials/employees of the revenue department to reach all villages/wards to ensure that no eligible voter is left out from getting their vote registered.
He also emphasized the need to raise awareness among people about voter registration. He directed officials from various departments, especially Agriculture, Rural Development, and Local Government, to encourage people to register as voters during programs/events/camps and other activities conducted by their departments.
He instructed officials to motivate people to register their votes during the field visits.
He said that eligible individuals in rural areas can submit forms to the patwaris of the respective patwar circles and in urban areas to the employees of the municipal council or local bodies authority, who have been designated by the revising authority of the respective area.
The preliminary publication of the voter list for the SGPC elections will be done on October 9, 2024, and claims and objections will be received until October 29, 2024. The resolution of claims and objections will be done by November 8, 2024, and the final publication of the voter list will be on November 26, 2024.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Major Dr. Amit Mahajan, SDM Balbir Raj Singh, and other officials were also present.
