The Jalandhar (rural) police on Monday froze illegal property worth Rs 1 crore 70 lakhs of six drug smugglers arrested earlier this year. SSP Jalandhar rural Dr Ankur Gupta said in a press release that the movable and immovable properties of six drug smugglers (arrested under the NDPS Act) as well as that of their families had been frozen by the competent authority. The six drug smugglers were wanted in three cases. The SSP said the property had been amassed through drug money.
The SSP said the Jalandhar police had registered a case under Sections 25, 31-A, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act on January 4 this year at the Goraya police station against Jagjit Singh alias Jeeta, a resident of Gidri village and presently residing at Araincha Road, Khanna, Ludhiana. Sixty-three kg of opium was recovered from Jagjit Singh which he was carrying in a truck (number PB10-HN-9921). Police said Jeeta had amassed Rs 83 lakh (Rs 83,43669) worth of property which has been frozen.
Similarly, in another case registered under Section 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Lohian police station in Jalandhar on April 6, three drug smugglers —- Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Mahveer Singh as well as Sunny Vohra, residents of village Dulla Singh Wala in Ferozepur and Surinder Singh, resident of Phularwal in Ferozepur —- had been arrested with 270 grams of heroin. They had amassed property worth Rs 76,95,590 after selling drugs. The property has been frozen.
In a third case, registered under Section 15 of the NDPS Act at the Adampur police station in Jalandhar on June 17, 2024, drug smuggler Avtar Singh alias Tari, a resident of Haripur had been arrested and property worth Rs 11,22,475 amassed by him was frozen. Police said the properties of more drug smugglers will also be attached after due diligence and probe.
