Punjab Local Government Minister Balkar Singh today reviewed the progress of ongoing development works in the city and directed the officials to ensure that projects are completed swiftly.
During a meeting at the Municipal Corporation office with MLAs Raman Arora and Mahinder Bhagat, Municipal Commissioner Gautam Jain, and other senior officials, the Cabinet Minister emphasized the need for personal supervision of various development projects to ensure their timely completion.
He stated that the Punjab government was committed to providing better basic facilities and a clean environment to the people through its development agenda.
Reviewing the construction of roads including PIMS Road and Jamsher Road, and the ongoing development work at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Park Boota Mandi, the Cabinet Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the quality of development works. He instructed officials to inspect the sites regularly and asserted that no compromise on the quality of development work would be tolerated.
The Minister also assessed the Municipal Corporation's arrangements for handling monsoon season challenges, including water drainage, sewer cleaning, and mosquito control measures. He urged special attention to sewer cleaning and pre-emptive arrangements, including necessary machinery, to resolve any sewer blockage issues.
He emphasized that effective drainage of rainwater during the monsoon should be ensured to prevent inconvenience to the public. Additionally, he reviewed the performance of the eight sewage treatment plants operating in the city.
The Minister also stressed the need for property tax collection. He instructed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure 100% property tax collection and warned that any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated. He asked officials to submit a report on this matter by August 1st.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister listened to the issues related to the respective constituencies raised by the MLAs and instructed the officials to prioritize and address them. He encouraged the officials to work with complete dedication and coordination.
