The Nakodar Sadar police have charged arrested Babbar Khalsa Internation (BKI) militant Simaranjit Singh alias Bablu with provocation, resistance, and obstructing a public servant from performing his duty.
Investigating Officer (IO) Prem Lal said that Davinder Singh Inspector of the Counterintelligence wing of the Jalandhar police in his statement said after his arrest by the CI unit and acting on Bablu's disclosures, a police team escorted him to a location near Wadala on the Jalandhar-Nakodar Road. Bablu told the police during interrogation that he had hidden the pistol, suspected to be used in the murder of former terrorist Rattan Deep Singh, who was shot dead in SBS Nagar on April 3 this year.
He said that on reaching there, Bablu attempted to escape by pushing a police officer and he asked the accused to stop but to no avail adding he opened fire from his service revolver to prevent his escape which resulted in injuries.
Davinder Singh said Simranjeet Singh alias Bablu son of Sukhdev Singh a resident of 88 Feet Road Amritsar was arrested under section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar.
IO Prem Lal said a case under sections 132,221,262 of the BNS, (153-wantonly giving provocation to cause a riot,186-obstructing public servant in discharge of public function, and 224-resistance by a person to his lawful apprehension of the IPC) IO has been registered against the accused.
