Notorious smuggler among three arrested for demanding 50 Lakhs extortion from Nakodar resident

 

JALANDHAR

Jalandhar (rural) police have arrested three accused including one notorious smuggler on the charge of demanding Rs 50 Lakhs from a Nakodar resident.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doctor Ankur Gupta told the media that the accused have been identified as Harjinder Singh alias Jinder son of Parminder Jeet Singh a resident of Dharmi Wal village under Shahkot police station, Kulwinder Singh alias Kaka son of Balwinder Singh a resident of Ward no 05, Lohian Khas and Joban Preet Singh son of Balwinder Singh a resident of Dharaarr village under Jandiala Guru Police station.

SSP said that the accused had made an international call to Manpreet Singh a resident of Dhadda Hari Pur village demanding Rs 50 Lakhs threatening him to kill if money was not paid and Nakodar Sadar police had registered a case in this connection on June 30.

SSP said gangsters Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga a resident of Fuki Wal village in Kapurthala and Gala son of Shir a resident of Ali Kalan village in Kapurthala are sitting in England and had phoned Manpreet Singh.

SSP said Amrik Singh Meeka of Lohian Khas has provided all details to England-based gangsters about Manpreet Singh.

Doctor Gupta said the accused Joban Preet Singh is a notorious smuggler wanted by the Gujarat police in a case of smuggling 200 kg and 788 heroin and ran away from Gujarat police custody on February 16 while being produced in Amritsar court.  

 

SSP said one country made a pistol 32 bore with the magazine and five live cartridges 32 bore and one motorcycle was recovered from the accused adding that many cases are pending against all three accused in different police stations.
